We spent 3 days leisurely sailing down the Yangtze river (which is the 3rd longest in the world) making our way through the 3¬†magnificent¬†gorges that inspired the name of the famous ‘Three Gorges Dam’.

While the building of the dam prevents the Yangtze from periodically flooding the surrounding areas as well as provide an important source of power, it has also meant the relocation of over 1.2 million people. While some moved to other provinces, others stayed and rebuilt their towns and villages above the new water level, like Badong pictured above. This means that most of the towns that you see around the Three Gorges area are pretty much brand new, with their older versions lying deep beneath the mighty Yangtze!
